Are you a Liberal?? I am, and damn proud of it!!

I think being a Liberal means having an open heart and an open mind!  I think it means seeing all races, cultures, and traditions as valid and deserving recognition!
And I think it means understanding we are all in this together, as part of the human race!  We MUST BE our brothers 'keeper' !  No matter how rich or powerful a person might be, they are still mortal and subject to the vicissitudes of life.  You know the phrase,'there, but for the grace of God go I'  A sense of superiority is a dangerous platform, subject to violent shaking!  You know, like in an earthquake, or flood, or violent wind!!
So if you are smug in your certainty, you had better do a reality check!
So, yes, as I said above, I AM A LIBERAL!!
What do YOU think??

  1. You really want to know what I think? Ok. You asked for it.
Most liberals that I have seen are the smug ones who feel that they have the corner on caring, compassion, nobility, and humanity. Reality check! Get over it. It ain't so Bubba.
Your ivory tower has a shaky foundation as well, my well meaning friend.
Besides which, you just touched on ONE of my pet peeves...LABELS. Ahhh yes, I do believe we have had this talk. lol
Why must we all be defined as liberal, conservative, or whatever? One may be liberal on one issue, quite conservative on another, and just plain undecided and still thinking about another. So what? Does that make them any less of a person or their views and opionions (or their right to have them) any less valid? I think not.

  2. Thanks for the comment! Every person's view is important!!
Mostly what the political dynamic is about is money! When less than one tenth of one percent of the population controls over 35% of the wealth, something is wrong! The rich are getting richer, and the poor poorer. That tells me we have our priorities are wrong! When the right wants to cut WIC and Headstart and NPR, that tells me something is very wrong! And when the enemy is the teachers, or the firefighters, or the police, something is very very wrong!
I know whoses side I am on!!

  3. I have to agree with Granny Lee- I do not vote a straight ticket just because I belong to one party. I use my mind and make informed decisions based on what I think are to the best interest. Voting a straight ticket deprives oneself of open mindedness and personal choices. We can not continue to spend what we do not have-If Govt were a business , it would have been closed many years ago. We are in desperate need of financial responsibility and yes, some will be hurt by it but passing on this burden to our grandchildren and beyond has to be stopped.

  4. People need to stop depending on the govt to support them-who helped our parents and grandparents in the Great Depression ? They helped each other and didn't depend on govt handouts.

  5. Actually many were not helped in the Great Depression or afterward! The disabled and the mentally challenged were left to fend for themselves and often died in agony! And what a bout the children? Do we not care? Government was not just designed to help the rich, which it does quite well, but also to help the poor and disadvanteged! After all we ARE THE GOVERNMENT!!
Life happens, and not to just those who have been lucky to buy insurance! What a myth that is.....

  6. Remember what Thomas Jefferson said Larry: "A government that can give you everything you want can take everything you have." That is one of the reasons we are in the shape we are in now. The govenment cannot solve all of our problems; and unfortunately the way it is set up now to help those who really do need help is ripe for fraud by those who don't but are too lazy to help themselves. Some of the "Rich" you talk about getting richer are the men and women in Congress who keep wanting to cut aid to the elderly and disabled , but vote themselves hefty raises, while they fund their own excellent healthcare and retirement plans.Democrats/Liberals and Republicans are guilty Larry! If they had to live on social security and depend on medicare, it might be a whole different story.

  7. I understand what you are saying Lee, and it is always important to see how our government is spending our money and who is benefiting.
It is always interesting to note that the US lags behind EVERY other developed democracy in its committment to its citizens welfare!
We also pay our teachers and public employees the least in comparitive dollars! It is all about priorities!

  8. Let me see- how many in Govt are rich according to everyone else. Our President just got out of law school broke and owing loans-all of a sudden he is a multi-millionaire and this doesn't just happen to Democrats-let's clean up our govt and give it back to the people as in---"We the people---"

  9. Yes, it is 'we the people' and it must be a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, and that must be for those that are not rich and powerful also! We are all in this together, let's act like it!
