Is the use of military power sometimes justified!

I think so!  Of course, great caution should always be used!  US and allied interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq show pitfalls of somewhat incautious entrance in other nations territories!!
None the less, I am in favor of the actions being taken by the US, France, UK and others to protect the Libyan people against a brutal dictator who will stop at nothing to subdue his people!  I think this action is neccessary and critical to save innocent peoples lives!
There are times in history, when we must step up to the challenge to do what must be done!!
What do YOU think??

  1. While I am certainly not for isolationism, I do think the US needs to butt out of other countries' business sometimes. I do not believe it our destiny nor mandate to police the world. There are too many domestic problems that go neglected while we gad about throwing money at other countries (whether in the form of military interventions or not)that could be better spent here at home. Frankly, when I see people(in this country) who have worked all their lives, having to decide whether to eat or buy meds because they cannot afford to do both, I really cannot in good conscience condone more spending abroad. It is not a lack of compassion, but a matter of being disgusted and frustrated with us spreading ourselves too thin and trying to solve others' problems before addressing our own. That's my rant for the day . lol

  2. Killing off one's own people is the work of a madman. This sort of evil can not be tolerated by humanity.

  3. Well, I suppose I shall likely be the only one to disagree, Larry, but here goes.
While I don't believe in isolationism by any means, I do not think the U.S. has the right or need to continually interfere in the affairs of other countires. Compassion, righteous indignation, and humanitarianism aside, it might behoove us to take care of our own problems before presuming to tell the rest of the world how to live and govern. There is no way that I can look about me at the want and privation in this country and then condone military spending for aggression against yet another foreign nation. So am I advocating Pacifism for us? Not really..BUT.. When I see people who have worked all their lives having to debate whether to buy food or medicine, (because some Washington fat cat has decided that old people on social security don't need a raise but he/she does), then I cannot in good conscience condone spending a fortune blowing some real estate across the seas to hell. The U.S. is really no longer financially stable and able enough to be the global police and rescue squad. We need, as I said, to work on our own issues here at home. Whether our pride and ego will like it or accept it or not, there are other free nations better able to hande this than us at this point. Ok. My rant for the day.

  4. Thank you so much Lee for your comments! I greatly agree with most of what you said. In this case, though, since our allies led the way, I will be on the side of a SHORT LIMITED intervention! I hope it works!!

  5. I sincerely hope you are right, Larry. We rarely intervene anywhere for a short or limited time. lol
